Project manager breakfast in Graz: humour meets project management

17. February 2025

Katharina Heger

On February 14, 2025, the project manager breakfast took place in Graz at the Austrian Institute for Provocative Approaches. This time, Birgit Deutschmann took us on an inspiring journey into the world of the humorous-provocative approach.

Birgit Deutschmann has been working with the humorous and provocative approach for 17 years and knows that targeted provocation with charm can work wonders. With ease, humour and pinpoint accuracy, she showed us how even difficult topics can be set in motion with a smile.

We were able to see for ourselves that provocative statements can be very powerful and sometimes shake us up in a matter of seconds. Together we discovered how reactance can become our ally in the fight against our problems. It is a powerful psychological force that can be used to our advantage with the right approach.

Our biggest barriers to growth

Where do we actually stand in our own way? A particularly exciting point of discussion was the three barriers to growth:

  • Fixation - When entrenched beliefs prevent us from seeing new perspectives.
  • Cowardice - When we are afraid to take risks and prefer to stay the course.
  • Laziness - When we know that change is necessary, but the effort involved holds us back.

Book recommendations

For those who would like to delve deeper into the subject, here are a few interesting book recommendations by Birgit Deutschmann:

  • Humor: Das Manifest für verzögerte Schlagfertigkeit (Katrin Hansmeier & Eva Ullmann)
  • Einführung in den Provokativen Ansatz (E. Noni Höfner & Charlotte Cordes)
  • Glauben Sie ja nicht, wer Sie sind! (E. Noni Höfner)

Many thanks to Birgit Deutschmann for this refreshing impulse and of course to all participants for the open and appreciative exchange! This network thrives on mutual exchange and grows with every meeting. The exciting morning showed what our project manager breakfast is all about: exploring new paths together, immersing ourselves in other worlds for a moment and taking away valuable ideas for our own day-to-day work - we are already looking forward to the next meeting!
